High testosterone = low intelligence?

This explains a lot about the behavior of some men. Researchers have found that too much testosterone can kill brain cells.

One of the researchers, Barbara Ehrlich (yes, a woman) of Yale University, says, "...when you have high levels of steroids, you have high testosterone and that can destroy the nerve cells. We know that when you lose brain cells you lose function."

Just to be fair, Ehrlich's team also tested the "female" hormone, estrogen. "We were surprised," Ehrlich says, "but it actually looks like estrogen is neuroprotective. If anything, there is less cell death in the presence of estrogen."

So an excess of testosterone kills brain cells, but estrogen keeps cells alive?

Women should be running the world.

Nothing impressive here. It happens almost with everything on the human body, too low or too high is always bad. While high levels kill brain cells, normal levels have a protective effect on the brain against loss of memory or strokes.

Plus testosterone helps creating geniuses.

At IQs of 130 there are 3 men per woman, at IQs above 145 there are 5 men per woman.

The odd is wise, men are naturally fit to dominate.

Sorry, but I can't stand misandry.

IQ tests are skewed. I have been told that I have an IQ of 135-140. The tests are more knowledge based than anything.. Yes, there is some logic and reasoning..but does that totally define intelligence? Howard Gardner doesn't think so and neither do I.

"Genius" is a cultural artifact that adds nothing to our understanding -- and I am incorrigibly far from ever asserting that "genius" is an appellation to be granted upon receiving some three-digit score on a scurrilous test. (Among such tests I would recommend Raven's Advanced Progressive Matrices, at any rate.) It's not that the tests themselves are skewed, it's that there is something fundamentally wrong with such terminology and parochial misconceptions of "genius" and "I.Q." in general. Namely, I.Q. is merely an adequate predictor of certain cognitive markers of performance and one's likelihood of taking on a particular array of professions/careers.

Cheerio.

Anonymouses: Thank you all for your insightful observations. Although there appears to be disagreement among us, I would venture that we all agree that "Intelligence" and "genius" are nebulous assignations of dubious import, and that balance is a better path to enlightenment.

When time came the females dominate the world then there would only be one gender --- females.. and if females were the "masculine" fellas then, then males would be the feminine ones. Its nonsense. Goodluck to all you sissies and lesbians! And goodluck to the women who marry their sissy husbands. turning the world up-side-down in absurdity.

IQ tests are for 2 dimensional intelligence. I believe that only 2 dimensional people score well on them. Language is prejudiced toward male centrism because women were not the language creators. They were image creators (creating image languages like Cuneiform pictographs/image/female, later developing into conventionalized linear drawings/language/male). And women were "The God"in the image of Goddess before language occurred to re-create "the beginning" with "the word". All Goddess images were destroyed in fear of humans not subjugating female, the fertile, the One who brings forth Life. Male dominance has always been in quest of controlling reproduction, males always having been in awe and fear of this female "power". Males are recessive in their chromosomes having a "Y". The "Y" chromosome is like the gene for "blonde", it is recessive and will die out over time. It is important that males run things for a while during human existence, and leave their piss mark on humanity so human's learn not to be greedy, selfish, self-centered, war-mongering, God-owning, other-hating humans. Male dominance is only a blip on the total spectrum of human existence. Only uneducated males think otherwise. It is their duty to be ignorant.

while i do certainly hope that male dominance is just a blip in the story of humanity, and that one day both sexes will have truly equal power in the fate of humankind, i pity you, your line of reasoning and your poor grammar skills. when a little less than 50% of the world population has a "recessive" Y gene, it makes you wonder whether its actually recessive or not. Now go back to your men-and-self-hating club (jealous of blondies? mmm?).

lol at these posts. Stop thinking in terms of intelligence, but in terms of evolution. It's basically a question of "how well do evolutionary traits fit the human society's word called "intelligence?"
intelligence as a scale from 1 to 10 doesn't exist in the mind of evolution. Evolution sees survival. It does not exist in 1 dimension.

You are now diamonds.
What now?

Yeah, but I personally believe testosterone is what gives men the more assertive and outgoing nature to dominate and create new ideas. Women could be intelligent as they want but it seems like men make better use of it. Not to say women haven't made large contributions society, and of course without women none of us would be here. "this is a man's world, but it would be nothing without a woman."
